Living Life to the Fullest

A group based on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM:

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a relatively new form of therapy which helps you relate differently to your feelings and thoughts. The aim of ACT is to maximize human potential for a rich and meaningful life.

ACT does this by:

  • Teaching you skills to deal with the thoughts and feelings effectively in such a way that they have much less impact and influence over you
  • Helping you clarify what is truly important and meaningful to you (i.e. your values), then use that knowledge to guide, inspire and motivate you

At its most basic, this approach is about developing new skills to deal with painful thoughts and feelings in a way that allows you to live a rich, full and meaningful life.  You can do this by changing your relationship with your thoughts and feelings, rather than trying to change your thoughts and feelings.

Specifically, in this group we will help you to explore various ways to be more present, open up to painful thoughts & feelings and do what matters to you in your life.

THRIVE

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM:

***FOR PATIENTS AGES 14 – 17***

THRIVE is a six-week group program to help young people live with vitality and strength.

This is a group based upon acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and positive psychology. The model that is used is called DNA-V.

DNA-V starts with the simple premise that we humans have much more potential than we can ever express in one moment. We are more like fire than stone. We are never complete, never broken, always capable of growth.

DNA-V synthesizes the behaviors found in all humans – we all have this kind of DNA just as we all have DNA in our cells. DNA-v is based on the latest evidence base and provides a dynamic model that can support personal growth and improve psychological problems. DNA-v uses the effective elements found in all therapies and psychological interventions.

D, N, and A stand for discoverer, noticer, and advisor, three classes of behavior, or less technically ‘ways of being, or spaces, that we can move between’. We can learn to flexibly move between DNA to become more skilled at each, and use them to create a life with heart – value and vitality (the V).

We can help people become DNA-v shifters – able to flexibly move around and choose the behavior that best fits the situation.
