Healthy You

The Healthy You group is offered by our Dietitians and our Mental Health Nurse.

We make over 200 food-related choices every day.  This program is for you if you would like to further develop healthy living behaviours and skills in a peer support group format.

What the Healthy You Lifestyle Program has to offer:

The Healthy You Lifestyle Program is facilitated by a registered dietitian and a mental health nurse. Topics addressed over the 4-week program include.

  • Our Eating Environment, Mindful Eating & Being Active
  • Nutrition 101 & Meal Planning
  • Supermarket Savvy & Grocery Store Label Reading Tour
  • Making Lifestyle Changes Stick

When it’s offered:

Niagara-on-the-Lake – The sessions are provided from 9:00am to 10:30am at the Niagara Medical Centre. One session is conducted offsite at a local grocery store. Maximum: 12 participants.

St. Catharines – TBA

Craving Change

Our Craving Change group is run by our Dietitians along with our Social Workers or our Mental Health Nurse.

This program is for you if:

  • You would like to change your relationship with food
  • You don’t want a diet, but a lifestyle change
  • You would like to learn more about your relationship between emotions and food

What Craving Change has to offer:

This program will help you to understand: WHY you eat the way you do, WHY you comfort yourself with food and HOW you can change your thinking and eating. Craving Change: A How to Guide for Changing your Relationship with Food. The Craving Change program is not a diet. It uses cognitive behavioural approach to help people see the connection between our thoughts, feelings and actions and the food we eat.

When it’s offered:

Niagara-on-the-Lake – this group runs twice a year for 4 weeks

St. Catharines – A 6-week program that runs Jan/Feb, May/June and Sept/Oct. It is generally held on Thursdays, either 9:30-11:00am or  6:00-7:30pm.

Lower It: Blood Pressure Program.

The Lower It group is offered by our Nurse Practitioners and our Registered Dietitians.

What the LOWER IT Program has to offer:

  • What you need to know about your blood pressure
  • Lifestyle changes to improve your blood pressure
  • Blood pressure checks before each class
  • Goal setting planner to help keep track of your changes

Take Control – Take Charge!

The NNFHT is presenting the “Take Control – Take Charge!” workshop series for patients and their families who are living with chronic illness such as chronic pain, arthritis, anxiety, diabetes or heart disease.

This workshop series is offered once a week for six weeks, 1:00-3:30 pm. Topics covered include: Healthy Eating, How to Add Exercise to your Day, Managing Stress, Planning and Problem Solving and How to Speak with your Health Care Professional.
